I’ve lived in Camden for 14 years and I have never swam in the ponds on Hampstead Heath. So last weekend my friend fixed this for me.
We cycled up to the Heath – luckily working up a sweat as it wasn’t that warm out and despite it being the end of summer the water wasn’t that warm either!
When we got there we paid our £2 contribution at the Ladies Ponds and changed into our swim suits. The only way in is to jump – unless you have nerves of steal! It was cold! It definitely woke you up. We then attempted a few laps around the pond. By lap 2 I was losing sensation in my hands so that’s as far as I went.

I think that’s the first and last time I’ll be swimming there this year – but maybe when it’s hot next summer! (Ps the water temperature was 17 degrees – below the min for triathletes to swim without a wet suit – that’s cold!)
So after that I felt I deserved stuffing myself at KERB’s final Saturday of the season at Granary Square Kings Cross.
I decided to start with the duck and pork Vietnamese style burger from Bill or Beak. Whilst this was tasty it was very messy!! As it was an overcast Saturday in September there were less vans than previously and one we were looking forward to – Donastia Social Club – wasn’t there at all 🙁
All the vans were serving larger portions rather than small easy to try snacks – so that limited what we chose. We tried the triple cooked chips with feta from the Greek van – but then it was time for dessert….
I’m not sure how many calories the brownie pots had – too many for sure!! I had the raspberry brownie with cookie dough (yes just scoops of cookie dough!) and salted caramel sauce. It took me 3 hours to eat it! I had to save some for later :s It was very tasty, especially the fresh raspberries in the brownie.
