Greenhook gin is the gin of the month at the Oliver Conquest for October, so Gin Club with a Reading Problem decided to go along to the FREE gin tasting 🙂
Daniella from Amathus drinks gave us a brief talk about the history of gin and then Siobhan from the Oliver Conquest talked more specifically about the botanticals in Greenhook. Apparently you should be able to identify elderflower, chamomile, earthy coriander and cinnamon, with a spicey juniper finish.
Now I didn’t get all of that! I definitely tasted the spicey juniper and some citrus as well as the coriander. For me the floral notes were more difficult to identify – this is where I needed to try the trick of adding water perhaps?! Instead we added tonic to our gin and garnished with the suggested orange and lime slices. Very tasty!
Close up of the Greenhook bottle – they are based in Brooklyn NY in the US.
As well as getting to taste the gin on its own we got a Gin and Tonic and some nibbles for FREE 🙂
As a special event there were special cocktails also! And 2 for 1 to boot!
I think my favourite was the bramble, but the Greenhook raspberry G&T was also a contender.
If you are interested in joining a Gin Tasting the next tastings are a double whammy to celebrate the Oliver Conquest’s 4th birthday:
Wednesday 12th November – Sibling Gin, an interestingly different gin made by four siblings, key botanticals include blueberries and vanilla.
Thursday 13th November – Ferdinand’s Saar, made on a vineyard and infused with Riesling grapes, key botanticals include lavender and lemon thyme.
Tastings start at 7pm – tweet @oliverconquest or email theoliverconquest@gmail.com if you want to reserve a space, but this isn’t required to join in, see you there!
