International Scottish Gin Day 2020 – a celebration of Scottish gin
The Countdown to International Scottish Gin Day:
26th September – 4 weeks to go
Check out my Instagram @whatskatiedoing for a giveaway of a gorgeous bottle of Seven Crofts gin [gifted]
Perfect in a martini!
I first tasted Seven Crofts at their London launch last November. A classic London Dry gin, Seven Crofts has 7 botanicals and the name is a reference to the original seven dwellings that made up Ullapool (where it’s made) in 1791. It’s balanced with lovely juniper and spices (including one of my favourite cardamom!) and has a superb mouthfeel – I highly recommend you try it if you like juniper forward classic style gins. I also got to try several cocktails with the gin and I think the dry martini above was my favourite.
3rd October – 3 weeks to go
Head to my Instagram @whatskatiedoing at 4pm for a LIVE chat with 1881 Distillery or watch the catch up on IGTV [gifted sample of the Subtly Smoked, the Navy I bought].
Based at Peebles Hydropathic Hotel, the distillery is a great edition to the hotel. On the Instagram Live we will talk through the history of their gin, the distillation, taste a couple of their more unusual gins, including their Subtly Smoked and Navy Strength and making some cocktails, before checking out the 1881 Gin School. You’ve also got a chance to win an Overnight Gin School Experience – check out the IGTV video from my live on how to enter.
We will be making this Navy Negroni cocktail on the 3rd
and also this Subtly Smoked martini with Manzanilla sherry – both recipes are in the IGTV live caption
10th October – 2 weeks to go
I’ll be doing another Instagram live at 5pm with King’s Hill gin founder Sandy [gifted sample].
We will go through the history of King’s Hill gin, hopefully see the distillery in the Pentland hills and talk about the inspiration for the newly launched blue bottle, as well as making a cocktail. King’s Hill gin doesn’t just look good, it’s a fabulous contemporary lighter style gin, which is sure to please any gin lover and we will be exploring the botanicals and flavours more on the Live.

I’ll also be showcasing another of my official supporter gins: Fairytale Distillery.
Fairytale Distillery looks positively magical
Based in a Fairytale village straight out of the Brother’s Grimm, this tiny distillery has been pumping out a selection of distinctive award winning gins.
Just some of the range!
I’ll be sharing more information during the 10 day countdown, so keep your eyes peeled.
17th October – 1 week to go!
Join me on Saturday 17th for an Instagram Live with McLean’s gin – time to be confirmed. Having started from a make your own gin kit in a cupboard in a South Glasgow tenement flat, Maclean’s gin has come a long way since 2017. They now make 6 different expressions using the ‘bathtub’ method to compound the flavours, as well as one offs and limited editions, in 50l batches in the village of Strathaven.
Something Blue – the special gin that Colin and Jessica created for their wedding
We’ll talk through their story and the range of gins on the Instagram Live Saturday 17th October, so tune in to find out more!
24th October – International Scottish Gin Day 2020
The big day itself! This year there will be less in person events than last year. But we can all still join in and celebrate our favourite Scottish Gins. If you are based in North London, why not check out the Colonel Fawcett, where I’m working with my co-supporters to bring you a menu of special Scottish craft gin offers, including some of the gins above.
For a wider selection of Scottish craft gins, then check out the other International Scottish Gin Day supporters and keep an eye on the hashtags #ISGD2020 and #InternationalScottishGinDay.
