Does Gin O’Clock come around for you every Friday? Or is it more like it’s 5pm somewhere? Well Pulsar has analysed gin conversations online and discovered some fun facts about #ginoclock!
Is it Gin O’Clock yet?
According to Pulsar’s analysis Gin O’Clock is 7 pm on Friday, you heard it here first!
It’s official Gin O’Clock is 7 pm Friday
They analysed over 2 million conversations about gin on blogs and social media. There was a spike in gin-ning as early as 3:30 pm on Fridays. But most people held off til after 5:30 pm to start discussing gin on a Saturday…. On Sundays peak gin hour is later at 7:45 pm!
Pulsar also found that over 3000 pictures of gin drinks were shared every day over the past month. I think #Internationalginandtonicday probably helped with this!
Which UK city is Gin Capital of the World?
By analysing social media posts Pulsar established that London is the undisputed Gin Capital of the World. This is supported by the sale of enough gin to make 1.3 billion gin & tonics in the UK alone…
London is the undisputed Gin Capital of the World!
Whilst it’s Gin O’Clock around the world, the UK came out as the leader with more gin conversations per capita than any other countries. Of this 46.4% of online conversations about gin begin in London. Which is more than the cumulative total of all the other UK cities combined. I’ve certainly contributed my fair share!
How does the rest of the UK line up?
The cities with the next highest volume of gin social media conversations were:
2. Manchester – 10%
3. Leeds – 8%
4. Glasgow – 6%
5. Dublin – 5%
6. Liverpool – 5%
7. Birmingham – 4%
8. Edinburgh – 4%
Manchester proved themselves to be the biggest gin-aholics, with the second highest volume of conversations in the country. As for Scotland? The Weegies seem quite gin-spired, with Glasgow overtaking Edinburgh to become Scotland’s gin capital. Perhaps that’s something to do with the Gin Spa that’s opened there?
Meanwhile, in Ireland, Dublin is the only Irish city to be vocalising its gin-ing online. Whereas Wales seem to be somewhat mute on the subject altogether. Come on you Welsh, I know you like a gin or two, there are certainly enough Welsh gins out there!
Looking forward to trying out the @GowerGinCompany Pinwydd later this week! With foraged pine tips from North Gower, Orange, cranberry and pink peppercorn it sounds like a great drink for the season! #gifted pic.twitter.com/N2kr7vUdMd
