Friday night is cocktail night!
This week the Gin Club met at the Fever-Tree Tonic pop up bar in Hoxton Square. It was a reduced showing – this time just Catherine and me, Kimmy was meant to be there but got stuck at work 🙁
Anyway Cat and I had a great time with the gin & tonic flight.
FYI this was 4 samples of gin (not sure they were much – maybe a shot each, but in a bigger glass so it looks like less!) and 4 different Fever-Tree tonic in total. We didn’t have 4 G&Ts each!
The point of the bar is to show case the Fever-Tree tonic flavours – Original, Lemon, Mediterranean and Elderflower.
We enjoyed all of them – we thought the lemon and elderflower flavours came into their own with the gin. Lemon does what it says on the tin – it’s cloudy and looks like a fresh lemon juice, but with the bubbles – so a but like tonic lemonade. Elderflower was a subtle flavour – this really works with the gin and I’m loving this flavour combination for the summer right now.
The original tonic is a lovely subtle flavour – unlike some other artesenal tonics it doesn’t over power the flavour of the gin (unless you put the whole bottle in lol!) and it’s not too rigorous on the bubbles – making it a great refreshing drink to have on it’s own.
The mediterranean flavour has the botanicals sourced from Mediterranean flowers, fruits and herbs. It’s a gorgeous combination and again marvellous for summer. It worked really well with the London No. 1 which we both really liked on its own – a floral delight!
Like proper reviewers we made notes 🙂
Unfortunately they were understaffed and overworked so we only tried the one G&T flight – when the fire alarm went off but nobody moved we decided to change bars – once we managed to pay!

We moved on to wait for Kimmy at Hoxton Bar & Restaurant – although their house wine was decently priced at £15, it wasn’t the nicest wine to chug when we heard Kimmy was at a different bar with her work colleagues!
We caught up with them at Barrio East. Last Friday we had tried to get into it’s sister bar in Islington, so I was pleased to be out there – it’s always a good night, with good cocktails, great music and a fun crew. Soon enough we were dancing the night away!
Cat’s piña colada a-likey (they put a twist on all their cocktails!) and my gin based “planters punch”, usually a rum cocktail!
Not one of our drinks, but I had to get a shot of the flaming cocktail – the bar staff know how to use their blow torches!
We stumbled out after midnight so people could get the last trains home and Cat and I finally ate something – chips with garlic sauce for me and kebab for her – a cheesy end to a fun night!
