The completion of my clean eating challenge finally allows me to break out the Taste Cocktail box I’ve had hanging around for a while.
The idea of this is a box of alcohol and appropriate mixers to make a particular cocktail and variations thereof. Small portions come perfectly wrapped in the box ready for you to go! Just fresh fruit garnish and cocktail equipment required….
The one I chose was the Clover Club box. This is a classic gin based cocktail with raspberry syrup and egg white to thicken and add an amazing foam.
The box contained Sipsmith gin, extra dry vermouth, grenadine and another random spirit called parfait amour (which was purple and violet based) and this all came with a recipe card and details to,access the website for more recipes!
The first thing I tried was the Clover Club, naturally… This involved making a raspberry simple syrup – which I did and kept in a jar for future use (Nb it’s not too long before it goes mouldy even with a sterilised jar and a splash of vodka in the syrup!)
The method for a Clover Club is key – the secret is in the dry shake – adding the egg white to the lemon juice, gin and raspberry syrup (or muddled fresh raspberries with sugar) and shaking up before you add the ice for a final chilly shake. This gives the proper froth:
However it is tricky to get this down. Top tip is fresh egg whites and pre whisk to break them down before you shake, here’s my attempt:
The boxes each come with a different theme each month and usually serve at least 6 cocktails with the ingredients included – depending on what recipes you choose.
I chose a one off box for £25, however you can sign up for subscription for £24 a month and get a different cocktail focus each month.
