This winter I joined the Snow Nerds on their trip to Courchevel. As a die hard skier it was good to be included with the mainly snowboard led group! The London contingent was led by my flatmate Laura 🙂
We flew into Geneva and took a 2.5 hour transfer to Courchevel, a little longer than normal due to the snowy conditions (not unexpected on a winter skiing holiday, but more than Geneva airport could handle, as our flights were delayed an hour – very unusual for the Swiss!)
We were staying at La Praz, one of the lower villages in Courchevel at 1300m, but equipped with a cable car up to the main town at 1850. Our chalet was a good deal for the price – very cheap with breakfast, afternoon cake & a 3 course dinner included. Recently renovated with the help of the local IKEA, the look was modern rather than traditional chalet. No wood fire though 🙁
Still despite appearances this was more a boys holiday than a girlie one – I almost killed myself on day 1 trying to keep up with the lads on holiday without their other halves! After that I helped the newbies to recover & went on with testing out which mountain restaurant had the best value for money lunch &/ vin chaud 🙂
Spectacular view from the top of the mountain – we were blessed with excellent weather – only one day the resort was in the clouds with minimum visibility – so obviously we headed to the bar after testing it out (one horrible run down yuk!)
So part from the skiing, sunbathing & watching others snowboard (I don’t do that!) we also had a few drinks & tried out the cheese & wine at the Cave de Lys
An amazing selection of cheeses to go with our wine 🙂
The one evening that the chalet staff had off required us to look further for food – the London girls decided on gourmet burgers at Au Buger d’a Cote
The girls enjoying the rustic atmosphere & posh burgers!
Our favourite après ski stop – the first bar you get to off the slopes!
In case of emergency – every day from 4pm Vin Chaud for €5!
La table de mon Grandpere – very pretty
