London Cocktail Week 2015 kicks off on the 5th October (tomorrow), so I thought I’d pull together my guide on what gin-tastic events to check out!
Sunday 4th – pre LCW warm up party ‘A FEW in the loo‘ 7pm FREE
FEW spirits are bringing their Whiskey and Gin to North London, with a party at Ladies and Gents bar in Kentish Town
I’ll be popping along as its just around the corner from me and they have a great tie into gin, as they a) make their own and b) let you have a go making it!
I first tried FEW gin at the Oliver Conquest, which if you haven’t heard of it is an amazing gin pub near Aldgate East (260+ gins!), and then we (Laura and I) saw FEW again at Junipalooza, where we got to try their London Dry and their American gin – something for everyone!
Monday 5th – I’ll be collecting my LCW15 wristband from one of the hubs, either Soho at The Old Vinyl Factory or Spitalfields Cocktail Village.
The best bit about the hubs are the pop-ups all around them and FREE samples! Wristbands for LCW get you £5 cocktails in the participating bars and sometimes a little something else too. (PS trade can register for FREE)
I’ve also been reminded about the Tanqueray 20’s art deco room at the Soho hub on Poland Street.
I hoping to catch up with the people I met when I volunteered at LCW last year 🙂
Tuesday 6th – ‘A Taste of Gin’s History‘ a Camden based gin walking tour run by Mark Holdsworth, the founder of Half Hitch gin.
I tried Half Hitch, my local spirit, (made in Camden Lock!) last year at the Oliver Conquest when Mark came and plied us with cocktails (nothing wrong with that!), so I’m looking forward to finding out more about Camden’s gin history and also trying it again (might be getting a bottle to add to the collection!)
On Tuesday Mark will be joined by Ian Buxton, author of 101 Gins to Try before you Die (I’m up to 65/101 currently!), so it should be an informative evening!
Wednesday 7th – I’m reliably informed that there is a Brockman’s take over at Ladies and Gents bar, so i’ll pop along to check it out.
Thursday 8th – work drinks in Bermondsey (not really LCW15 related!)
Friday 9th – Vestal Voyages party on a canal boat.
Run by Willy Borrell from Ladies and Gents, Gin Club with a Reading Problem have made gin onboard before and are looking forward to a Friday afternoon party!
Currently I don’t have anything planned related to LCW15 planned on Saturday and Sunday, as I plans with friends, but to check out any of the above, follow the blog, or for immediate updates check me out on Instagram @whatskatiedoing and Twitter @Katiebhughes
Stop Press!
You can get involved in the Scottish invasion at Mussel Men – 3 different Scottish gins and some whiskey depending on the day!
See you at the bar!
