Cocktail Crazy in Kentish Town

OMG there is loads going on in Kentish Town at the moment!

I decided that Easter weekend was the best time to visit two new subterranean cocktail bars on Kentish Town High Street – Ladies and Gentlemen and Knowhere Special.

Ladies and Gents, as you might have guessed, is housed inside an old public conveniences:

Yes they have one loo….

And some original features 🙂 but we were more interested in the cocktails…

The menu was varied & original and the key part was the snacks on the back – tasty flaky sausage rolls hmmmm

The bar was light and airy given we were there at 6pm – love the later evenings now! As you can imagine it’s not a huge space so not great for groups – tables can seat 4/5 comfortably but there are only 5 of them and the few seats at the bar.

They make their own gin!! Coming soon, can’t wait 🙂 We had a chat with owner and he will make gin for you to your own recipe – 24 bottles at a time… Ideal for pressies?! Now I need to get experimenting on the recipe….

The Easter special – A Bunny’s Tale, tasty chocolate heavy cocktail of fun. And yes the mini eggs don’t float – they were positioned on top of the floaty cream, as I found out shortly after this shot…

I definitely liked the vibe – they had a bass and piano player providing the music and I already mentioned the sausage roll snacks. The cocktails were spot on and the owner gave us a free shot of something delicious as they were having a family celebration and dancing to the music.

I definitely want to go back!! We only left to grab some food before our next round of cocktails. A quick stop at Giles Coren’s favourite kebab shop – E. Mono – lined the stomach.

On the way we went past a few new places:

Southern Joe’s wasn’t open when we were there on Saturday, but it’s open now and form twitter it looks like people are enjoying!

Ooh looks like the Hell’s Raiser has Camden Town Brewery expanding to Kentish Town High Street!

Next up on the KT cocktails was Knowhere Special. Here we were lucky to get a table on a Saturday night – it’s possibly even smaller than Ladies & Gents. We ended up channeling the Greek/Roman vibe in the boudoir area (aka a table in a low arched room – we had to sprawl!)

The specials list – all the specials are served with food to complement, I don’t mean a meal, just a mouthful of something to complete the flavour experience.

My Drink from Genevieve – a fabulous take on an old fashioned (ps we also got a bag of popcorn – not part of the cocktail!)

I wasn’t sure about this exactly – Duck a l’orange – Duck fat ‘washed’ gin cocktail served with some cherry flavoured cake. It actually worked really well with the blood orange reduction!

What’s not to Like? Came with salted caramel & cherry brownies on the side.

Unsurprisingly I didn’t like the bourbon based That’s a Peach – Almost, it got better when watered down with the almond milk though.

After lying around drinking for a bit we decided that a quick stop into Camden Town Brewery was in order – in the end I was too full to finish my pint of Unfiltered Hells Lager, but it’s always worth a visit!
