Some of you may know that it’s Negroni week this week and also World Gin day on Saturday. So what better way to celebrate gin & the classic gin based cocktail than Just Gin cards?!
So what are the Just Gin cards? It’s basically a top trumps game for gin (advisable to play wholst drinking G&Ts obviously!)
I managed to find some of the featured gins in my home collection – there is a substantial selection included in the cards, mainly European based gin distilleries:
For example Gin Mare from Spain, served in a traditional Spanish copa glass!
Miniature Martin Millers – made in the UK using water from Iceland.
Hernö from Sweden – I didn’t have the special juniper cask aged, but we tasted this at last years Junipalooza.
There are six categories on each gin card – distance to London (because London Dry gin is the best?!), alcohol %, botanicals, production volume, date established and retail price, with the winning categories highlighted in gold. In addition each card tells you the perfect serve for that gin – great for those G&T’s you will be drinking at the same time!
I also like using the cards to get new gin inspiration. I took the deck to my local gin palace, The Oliver Conquest and got them to pick a gin. They stock over 350 gins so if they don’t have it I probably can’t get it in London! This is the perfect way to try out new gins:
This is the gin I chose – Dutch Courage. Technically the card shows the Dry Gin, however the Old Tom they stock at The Oliver Conquest was good too (and a different flavour from a juniper led Dry gin – try it out!)
The cards were created by Mikail and Thomas Rosen (not related) – the cards can be used for top trumps or played for a gin-quartet and Mikail and Thomas spotted a gap in the market for a gin quartet game and decided that they would create it. 36 gins were interested in participating and soon they had photographs by Michael Schwettmann and the card design from Jasmina Jager.
The cards come in a handy metal tin, as shown in the photos, making them easy to transport and they make the perfect present for the gin lover in your life! You can buy the cards from Justgin.net for €9.95 and they ship all over, enjoy!
Just Gin cards were sent free from the company, but all experiences and opinions are my own.
