The girls and I have decided to start a dinner club – we basically look for the best deals at the best restaurants London has to offer and then take full advantage!
This month we headed to Maze – part of Gordon Ramsay’s portfolio – on Grosvenor Square. The deal was from Open Table – £35 for 4 courses and a cocktail. Luckily we were able to book a table for 8 on my birthday 🙂
In the bar for a pre dinner drink – we had quite the selection of bubbles and martini’s!
As a bit of a treat they took us to our table through the kitchen, turns out our table had a view of the kitchen too!
As we were a large group of raucous ladies they closed the sliding door to the main restaurant – instant private room – result!
After a few more drinks we tried pranking the chefs – but they weren’t watching…
The menu is fusion tapas – so a choice of smaller dishes, savoury and a few sweet for dessert.
I chose the octopus, which was surprisingly meaty, but very tasty.
I also tried the seabass in a dashi broth – light and perfectly cooked – but we didn’t get a photo of that.
Catherine got the beef tataki – rare and truly luscious!
Alex got the duck – I didn’t get to try this, but it looked amazing and judging from the sound (or lack of it!) from the girls that ate it, it went down well.
I had the pork belly – again beautifully cooked and very tasty.
All of us bar Susan had a sweet course too – the chocolate, banana and coconut dessert went down a treat!
Our special cocktail – from what I can recall it was gin, lemon and soda, possibly a few ingredients missed out, we had these at the end of the evening along with some gorgeous madelaines (they gave us extra when we complimented & then asked for them)
As a few of us were tweeting away before & during dinner the head chef came out to complain that we weren’t including him in the tweets!
Here he is! Alex Thiebaut – Head Chef, not Executive Chef and not Gordon! Laura took full advantage to pounce on him :s
But it seemed to pay off – we got a tour around the kitchen on our way out!
The guys at the Chef’s table in the kitchen:
Group shot behind the pass – not sure what we were laughing about, but it was bloody hot behind there!
I really appreciated them pulling out all the stops to make this more than just a birthday meal – great customer service 🙂
