The Camden gang and I have been to Ziloufs plenty of times before – we like the combination of cocktails, fusion food and decent prices – so it seemed an appropriate venue for the Susan’s final dinner before she moved back to the U.S.
In particular we were drawn by their newly updated set menu – 2 courses for £15 or 3 for £17 Tuesday through Thursday and they have cocktail deals for most of the night.
As per normal we pretty much chose one of everything (but two of the 2-4-1 cocktails!)
I ended up with the pork belly pancake – which was a small but flavourful delight of crispy pork and tasty Asian slaw – kinda like a crispy duck pancake with extra pinkness!
After much decision making I decided the Penang duck curry would be a good main, but it was tricky deciding between this, the sea bream and the comfort of the pad Thai (I’ve had it here before and it’s bang on!)
When the dishes came I felt vindicated in my choice! The duck was cooked confit on the bone and so was the best combination of crispy skin and melt in the mouth flesh.
The curry sauce complemented it and felt healthy with additional veggies included. All the garnish – peanuts, coriander – worked well. I tried to avoid eating the whole chillies, as I can’t take that kinda heat!
I did have to order rice on the side with this dish – which wasn’t part of the set menu.
After I’d polished off that, I was pretty full, however some of the girls had skipped starters in preparation for dessert! So I only managed to try their interesting selection of icecreams and sorbets, mango and chocolate are so good! They had run out of the cardamom icecream – which was a shame as you may know already that it’s one of my favourite flavours in food and gin.
However I think the chocolate brownie won the dessert round:
By the end of the meal we’d been at Ziloufs for several hours and demolished a lot of cocktails and a couple bottles of wine, all for a decent price.
It was a great way to get together as a group and celebrate our friendship – we will miss you Susan!
Not the best photo of the gang, but the last one in London with the Suze looking stunning at the back (we also thought the guys photobombing on the next table were very funny too!)
I’d recommend booking Ziloufs for large parties – they’ve always done a great job entertaining us ??
