Last week I went to see Reel Big Fish at Brooklyn Bowling at the O2.
It was the first time I’d been to Brooklyn Bowl for a gig, and the first time I’d seen Reel Big Fish, both were great experiences!
We turned up early for the gig so we could grab some food. First up was the jug of frozen margaritas…
The menu is all Deep South American – fried chicken, pulled pork etc. We tried the fried chicken and the Cajun catfish – all very tasty, but I think I may be over the Deep South food thing for a while… Well til next week lol!
We went into the bowling space in time to catch the warm up act The Jellycats. Despite playing to an fairly empty venue they had loads of energy and it soon filled up with people grooving. The theme for all the bands was ska – Reel Big Fish, the headliners, are from California and have been around since the 1990s, the Jellycats were from Essex and the other warm up act Magnus Pluto were from Bristol.

Reel Big Fish getting the party kicking off!
Having never been to a Ska gig before, this was different, but fun. Lots of sweaty people jumping around and a huge mosh pit that went circular for Reel Big Fish – people were getting dragged in from the periphery and thrown out randomly sans shoes. Needless to say I stayed on the sidelines!
All in all a good night out, and for me not needing to run home straight away to be up for a job the morning it was good to stay and check out the bowling alley – next time I’ll have to book the bowling too.
