Up on the Roof @ Vintage Salt

Summer is here and alfresco dinning is in! What can make it even better, except the sense of superiority that comes from eating out up high?!

Hence why Vicky & I headed to Vintage Salt after a post work late night shop at Selfridges – gotta love late night Thursday’s!

Obligatory selfie from our table by the open kitchen – the desserts were plated right behind us and looked amazing… seriously the temptation was too much!

The atmosphere in the restaurant was very buzzy – I saw an ex-colleague having to wait at the bar (where it was standing room only) for a table to come free – I was glad that I had booked a table!

Our menu for the day – we had a table at 8pm and already several of the specials were sold out to my misfortune 🙁

But what we did have was great, all fresh and seasonal, and as you might have guessed, based on food you’d get at the coast – I.e. Lots of seafood!

My starter – spiced tuna tartare with avocado and pickled cucumber. It was light and refreshing as well as looking gorgeous! The lightly pickled cucumber and the spice from the chilli really worked to lift the flavours making it zingy.

Vicky stuck with the traditional asparagus, another dish perfect for a light dinner.

The marinade, the grilling and the side all combined to make this one tasty, but hearty dish – so much for the light dinner plan!

Vicky chose the Cornish Shrimp burger – as you can see lots of juicy shrimp in there!

Then we threw the light dinner plans completely out of the window and let the desserts tempt us!

Strawberries and cream – which came deconstructed and with ice cream but was still lovely.

Bergamot lemon meringue for me – the pasty wasn’t quite up to scratch (very dense and brittle!) so I just ate the meringue and filling!

I was very disappointed that they had run out of the chocolate burger and brownie sundae dip as we had seen those dessert go past and they were wonderfully playful!

Top tip – get in early to get specials and the best desserts!!

The nautical theme was all through the restaurant – a lot of effort has gone in, especially when you consider this is a pop up (until September).
