Laura, my flatmate and I were lucky enough to be invited to the Groupon Christmas grotto, which properly kicked off the Christmas feeling!
Based in Batemen Street Soho it was the perfect stop on the way home to pop in, drink some mulled wine and see some demonstrations of activities you can book through Groupon… Perfect Christmas pressies perhaps?!
We started out at the Atelier de Chefs stand and made confit duck leg and spiced plum pastilla with a citrus syrup – a Christmas take on the traditional Moroccan classic. Very tasty! And very easy when someone else does all the preparation for you… All we had to do was wrap the duck in the filo pastry!
We missed the macaroon decorating session that they were also doing – however I can vouch for their macaroon making course. I had that as a Christmas pressie a few years ago when I was going through my macaroon obsessed phase and would recommend it to anyone wanting to make these technical beauties.
Next up was wine tasting from Dionysius Importers 🙂
We tasted a selection of wines from Italy, starting with the fizzy, both a traditional prosecco and a less traditional drier sparkling white from a different region. Then we worked our way through the whites and reds, including a very nice reserva.
We finished up with a sweet dessert wine – a little like a port – would go very well with raspberries and chocolate 🙂
Dionysius specialise in Italian wine and are based around the corner on Regents street, handy if you want to pop in.
We then stuffed ourselves with churros and then headed out to arrange things for our own Christmas drinks evening, feeling very festive!
