As you may have seen from my Instagram, not only have I recently visited the Harry Potter studios, but I’ve also been making magical potions at the Cauldron Pub pop up in East London. Combining my passion of cocktails and the flair of magic, a night at the Cauldron is like no other. Read on to hear and see the full experience:
*Full disclosure, my visit to the Cauldron Pub was via Love Pop Ups London and was free in exchange for this honest review*
Magical Potions at the Cauldron Pub
On arrival we are sorted into our groups (by table) and given a wizards robe to don.
Each group of two is given a magic wand to share (well we can’t have too much untrained magic flying around!)
The wands do require a credit card as deposit, so make sure you don’t break them (or use them to stir!)
Once seated at our tables (or should that be desks?!) we start with the potion making….. our table was set up with the ingredients for the magical cocktails:
Potion Class
Our first cocktail
We got stuck in with the instructions for our first cocktail, the Transfiguration Toniq. Mixing the potions carefully in the glass flask we had a purple brew.
We poured our cocktails out into the glasses and then placed them on our magic box. A flick of the wand and ta-dah! The drink lights up!
The addition of a secret ingredient from the potion master enchanted our cocktails and turned them pink!
This was effectively a gin and tonic with added flair! Whilst we enjoyed these cocktails, the potion masters cleared up our used items, ready for the next one!
Cauldron time!
For the second cocktail, the Lost Title we were instructed to take the cauldron down and request it filled.
Then we used the wand to open the cabinet on our table to find the rest of the required ingredients:
- Dried botanicals
- Bladderwort nectar
- Dragon’s Tears
- (rum & lemon juice – spot the odd one out!)
We started by grinding our dried botanicals into a powder in the pestle and mortar. We then added this into our cauldron and with the addition of a special ingredient, mixed away!
We added the ingredients to the jam jars of rum and lemon and shook up with ice before straining into our coupe glasses.
I think this rum and spice cocktail was my favourite!
The Magical Tree
Between making potions you could also visit the magical tree which acted as bartender and poured different drinks. With the magic of our wands you could choose the Cauldron’s own spiced lager (very tasty!), Four Cauldrons:
Or you could pick a cocktail or non-alcoholic option:
Additional Drinks
Any additional drinks on top of the two potions you make and the magic tree, are charged. But these are awesome too and worth trying if you can hold your liquor!
It may seem tame to some, but this ‘Bitter Glitter’ was a negroni in sparkly disguise! (and it was negroni week when we visited!)
The Decor
The room itself was made up with lots of interesting items and secret corners……
And what’s in this cupboard?
The Verdict
Me and my friends really enjoyed our night at the Cauldron! If making magical potions is something that you want to do, then the Cauldron Pub is the place for you! Included in the £29.99 ticket price is your experience in making two cocktails and a drink from the magic tree. Additional drinks can be ordered, but will cost extra. For me three drinks was enough for our time slot. They also have non-alcoholic options if you just want the experience without the drinking!
