Dinner @ Clos Maggiore

As a special treat for our first family Christmas in Camden, my parents took me and my sister to see the musical Kinky Boots on Boxing Day.

After the matinee performance we had a wander around Covent Garden to admire the Christmas lights (more on that later!) and headed to Clos Maggiore for dinner.

Famous for its romantic courtyard with fairy lights, Clos Maggiore is also good for intimate dinners with friends or family. I didn’t get to see the courtyard as we were upstairs in a cosy wood panelled dining room.

I got the seat by the fire and the stockings…

As it was Christmas we started with a glass of champagne and then moved on to the starters:

Dressed crab starter with smoked anchovy mayonnaise and chargrilled cauliflower

Scallop and crispy pigs trotters starter

Lobster, scallop and King prawn tortellini in a lobster bisque

I had the tortellini and while the whole dish was great, the sauce was absolutely superb! I had to wipe the bowl with my bread to make sure I got it all!

For main course my family were a little boring and all ordered the same – the venison:

Venison main course – cooked perfectly pink in the middle

So I decided to mix it up with something different:

Slow cooked veal cheek with marrow croquette and the most gorgeous Madeira gravy (seriously their saucier chef is amazing!)

We also got some spinach and truffle mash on the side – seriously rich and filling food…. But this didn’t stop us from perusing the dessert menu ?

The signature ‘Clos Maggiore Caramelised Valrhona Chocolate Sensation – my sister and I ~~fought~~ I mean shared this (it is meant for two!) with actual edible gold leaf (at least I hope so, we ate it anyway!), burnt honey ice cream and a very boozey tasty Armagnac jelly.
